MATIÈRES FÉCALES - THE STORY BEHIND THE STYLE
When Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran met at LaSalle College of Montreal in 2014, the design and DJ duo bonded over a shared sense that the world and the fashion industry were too oppressive. Together, they shaved their heads and brows, painted their faces in alien-like makeup, and built avant-garde looks that blurred the line between art and identity.

By 2016, they launched Fecal Matter, an intentionally provocative name meant to capture both the beauty and grotesque of the human experience while challenging the facade of luxury-driven culture. Their alien aesthetic first gained traction on Depop, where they sold early designs directly to a growing community of fans drawn to their radical vision.
As their following grew, they became fixtures in the Rick Owens circle, modeling, styling, and orbiting a designer they had admired since fashion school for redefining beauty and self-expression. In 2019, they even created the prosthetic alien makeup for Owens’ Fall/Winter womenswear show, a collaboration that cemented their place in his universe of radical beauty.

In 2024, their journey came full circle when Comme des Garçons’ Dover Street Market Paris signed the duo, reintroducing them as Matières Fécales within its independent designer incubator.
For Fall/Winter 2025, they officially debuted with “The Other” in Paris—an ethereal collection of deconstructed tailoring, angelic silhouettes, and collaborations with Christian Louboutin. "This collection is about being fearless in your identity. It’s about walking into a room with your head held high, even if nobody wants you there." To accommodate the massive turnout from their cult following, the show was staged twice back-to-back, a rare move that highlighted the intensity of their community.

With “The Other,” Matières Fécales sharpen their exploration of identity, duality, and liberation. Once Depop outsiders with alien aesthetics, Dalton and Bhaskaran now stand as one of Paris fashion’s most vital new voices—challenging beauty norms and shaping the future by daring to be other.
