Eschewing the superfluous, Jil Sander’s discreetly double-breasted coat is an exercise in exactitude. The clean buttonless front, the clear lines, the longer length; it’s minimal, modernist and obviously masterful.

JW Anderson subverts that most staid of traditionally masculine fabrics, Prince Of Wales check, by overlaying it with a coating of reflective silver paint. Designed inside out, the lining becomes a decorative yet fully functional element. (one can also wear it outside in). The opening, deliberately askew, is testament to one of the brand's most prominent codes: asymmetry.
