WHY WE LOVE IT – UNDERCOVER MARKUS ÅKESSON PADDED COAT
WHY WE LOVE IT - Aug 17, 2021
Takahashi revisited Åkesson’s work for this collection, and we couldn’t get enough of it, as you will see by our Undercover men’s buy.
Collaborating with artists – whether with the American provocateur Cindy Sherman or the Belgian painter Michael Borremans – has been a leitmotif for Jun Takahashi, the designer of the cult Japanese label Undercover. The little-known Swedish painter Markus Åkesson is another of Takahashi’s collaborators. Takahashi first used Åkesson’s work in his Fall / Winter 2014 women’s collection, titled “Cold Blood,” shortly after he saw Åkesson’s paintings in a Paris gallery exhibit.
Takahashi revisited Åkesson’s work for this collection, and we couldn’t get enough of it, as you will see by our Undercover men’s buy. We love the way Takahashi uses graphic elements in general, especially on outerwear, which makes them particularly striking, and this padded coat – lightweight and warm - is one of the best examples of such use in this collection, because it transforms a rather familiar garment into something truly unique.
