JUNYA WATANABE

A protégé of Comme des Garcons, Junya Watanabe began his own line of womenswear under the name Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons in 1993. In FW00, his ‘Techno Couture’ collection was a tour de force of experimental materials and innovative shapes. He launched menswear that same year. Junya Watanabe is known for redesigning clothing staples such as the trench coat and biker jacket in ways that render them simultaneously familiar and unusual.
