SIMONE ROCHA AND THE VICTORIA ERA

THE PERFORMANCE OF FEMININITY

Simone Rocha's design DNA carries strands of Victorian dressing through silhouette, structure, and embellishment. Voluminous shapes, intricate lace, and ruffle detailing resemble the same modest and ceremonial design that debutante gowns, christening robes, and other Victorian garments carried.

Rocha's Fall/Winter 2024 Show entitled "The Wake" displayed designs inspired by a traditional mourning gown worn by Queen Victoria after the death of her husband. Taking place at the Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great, the show held true to other Victorian dressing elements such as corsetry and complexity. The melancholic show represented the centuries-long relationship ritual, transition, and performance has had with fashion.
